Geoff Wright, CABE regional representative for the West Midlands, and Nick Slater, ACE Visual Arts Officer, West Midlands, travelled to Telford on December 11th to present the Building Sights Award 2003. This yearÕs award was won by a project to design and build two new prototype classrooms for two schools in the borough of Telford and Wrekin. This project, commissioned by the local authority- the Borough of Telford and Wrekin, was run in conjunction with Enabling Concepts who were instrumental in getting the schools, staff and students involved in the construction process.
Wrockwardine Wood Junior School hosted the award ceremony inside their new classroom. Head teacher Ian McLeish introduced the occasion and led a group of his students in reminding those assembled of the sorts of activities they had been involved with throughout the duration of the project. Pupils at Wrockwardine Wood Junior School and The Lord Silkin School worked with the architects and furniture designers and visited the Yorkon factory in York to see the construction modules being manufactured off-site.
Geoff Wright and Nick Slater presented plaques to Ian McLeish, Head Teacher of Wrockwardine Wood Junior School and Jane Woodall, Head Teacher of the Lord Silkin School.
Councillor Peggie Harrison accepted the £5000 award on behalf of the client, The Borough of Telford and Wrekin.
